Carp eat aquatic plants such as algae and other vegetation in lakes and ponds. Being omnivorous, they also eat various invertebrates, scavenging on the bottom of rivers and digging up riverbeds for worms, water beetle larvae and small, tasty crsutaceans. Carp have been known to eat smaller fish, but this is a far rarer occurrence.
