They are about x100 smaller than regular plankton. You cant see them with a naked eye. and by the way its spelled phytoplankton have a nice day. :)
If the phytoplankton were to disappear, the fish wouldn't be the only ones in trouble. We depend on that stuff to put Oxygen back into the air.
Te bottom of the food chain would be phtoplankton which are really tiny organisms which are eaten by small fish to whales. Small fish are fed upon by bigger fish etc.
