What fish can survive with a betta fish?

I belive that a goldfish will might be good. Goldfish will nibble on their lovely fins... I've seen Beta's get along ok with Cories, also little Neon Tetras. By the way, female bettas can only be together to mate, even after mating the male may kill the female. Never put neons with a betta! I don't know too many fish you can keep with them, but have a (Chinese, Siamese or Japanese whatever you call it where you live) fighting fish and with it i have neon tetras, cardinal tetras guppys and catfish (sucker fish) If your betta is aggresive then guppys and maybe other fish i have listed don't get along with them, but some bettas are more peaceful. If you want to find more fish ask some staff at the pet store you go to.

As far as I know, bettas make good community tank fish as they are very quiet. However, they like their water still, so won't be compatible with fish that need a lot of filtration and aeration because of their different environment needs. You can never keep two male bettas together, they will fight until one of them dies even if there are no females present.

If your tank is large enough, some types of fish can live with a betta, but not another male or female betta because they will fight with a male and kill a female. If your betta seems aggressive when you add fish, then he will need to live alone, so don't try too many at once. Also, some other types of fish will attack a betta's fins: other long-finned fish, most barbs, and some tetras will not live peacefully with them. Also, aggressive fish will harm and probably kill them and fast moving fish will make them nervous. Goldfish are also not good companions for any tropical fish, especially one that needs such warm water. So, if you have enough room, the best companions for a betta are smaller livebearers, such as guppies and platys.

Suitable tankmates for a betta depend largely on the betta's temperament. Some docile bettas are suitable for the general community, but this is not ideal and most will not survive in this environment. Small shrimp (amano or cherry) are usually suitable but some bettas will attack them. Large snails are suitable as well. Bettas can be kept with peaceful livebearers (not guppies or mollies as they will mistake the flowing fins for another betta; endlers are fine) harlequin rasboras or danios. Tetras or barbs are not suitable tankmates because they are too nippy and will damage the bettas fins. Corydoras catfish are ideal, three pygmy cories and one betta in a five or six gallon tank would look nice. Cichlids are too aggressive and too large. Some bettas can be very aggressive and cantankerous and will not tolerate the presence of any other fish in their aquarium at all. There is nothing to do except to accept that some bettas are like that and will need an individual tank.

You really can't put any other fish with a betta, not even its own kinds. Sure the betta is a fighting fish, but the other fish in your tank will rip the fins off of him. My dad had tat happen once to him. If you are wanting to breed bettas, the female cannot stay in the tank with the male very long. The male will stress her out so much that she will die.
