What food should you have at a party?

That depends a lot on what the party is. For example, a children's birthday party would be very different to a formal dinner party. If you're cooking the food, make sure it's stuff that you can make without getting stressed/looking harassed. So make sure it's either food that can be prepared in advance (by at least a couple of hours to a couple of days), or food that you've made before and are quite familiar with cooking. Do as much of the preparation in advance as you can and you can't go wrong.

Well it all depends on what party it is. like, mostly put Pizza, chips, soda, and ice cream cake. If it's just a normal old party than put some shrimp and dip chips and pizza. mostly just put 2 large pizza's and 2 or 3 different kinds of chips and 2 kinds of soda.

It depends on the kind of party.

For football (rugby) parties, Sandwiches, chips, beer (ale) and dips are nice to have. Quick and easy.

For a get-together (family/high school reunions, etc), more substantial food is required in a buffet type of setting...Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, chips, liquid refreshments. Probably should throw in some kind of salad type thing like potato salad, macaroni salad. Also some type of sweets (cakes, puddings, pie) is also nice to have.

For formal parties (dinner parties, Sunday dinner) you will need several courses served, minimum of four courses. Appetizer (something like vegatable sticks, or something else light and tasty), salad (regular ol' salad will do with dressing and maybe some bacon bits), main course (depends on the occasion, but steak or someother type of big slab of meat is a good way to go), and desert (pudding, pie, cake, something sweet). You can also follow all this up with a drink course (brandy, whiskey, or just plain ol beer).

If you have a grill, you can serve grilled meat, chicken, hot dogs and burgers. If not, cold foods like fruit and raw vegetables are good. Chips and dip are popular.
