My sister who is 58 years old was diagnosed with PBC several years ago.. she has been in the hospital for 4 weeks Thursday - she has had good and bad days but in the last 10 days she has been getting weaker. She is not eating and has lost over 30 lbs. She has also had a tube in her chest wall draining excess fluid around her lungs so far they have taken off over 11 liters in 4 weeks. She has a couple of days of total confusion when she didn't even now that I had been there nor could she figure out how to use the phone. They contributed the confusion to giving her codeine for a sore throat - but yesterday had another day of the same but this time there was no medication involved. She is so weak she is not able to speak properly and is complaining about not being able to see properly as she has indicated today and again the other day that her vision is very blurred in fact that she doesn't want to open her eyes. Her Dr. thinks that she has an infection somewhere - perhaps from the sight of the drainage. Can you help us ask the right questions - we are confused and are afraid that they might be missing something. Please help.
