"Spoiled" or contaminated chicken contains bacteria that can cause serious illness even if cooked. These bacteria produce toxic by-products that can survive the cooking process and cause digestive and systemic poisoning. Never consume food with a bad smell or taste, or that may have been exposed to bacterial contamination, either before or after it is cooked. Chicken in its raw state is especially prone to contamination and should always be thoroughly cooked to reduce the possibility of incidental bacterial poisoning.
