Can you blend craft sand and hermit crab sand and still be safe for the hermit crabs?

Blending craft sand with hermit crab sand is not recommended, as craft sand may contain harmful additives or chemicals that could be detrimental to hermit crabs' health. Hermit crab sand is specifically formulated to provide a safe environment, including the right texture and moisture retention. If you want to create a suitable substrate, it's best to use only products specifically designed for hermit crabs or natural sand that is free of harmful substances. Always prioritize the safety and well-being of your hermit crabs when choosing their habitat materials.

Will any sand work in your hermit crab habitat?

For the most part, yes. You can use the most expensive type which comes in small bags at about $7 per bag called calcisand or normal play sand like you would use in a child's sandbox. If you have a sick hermit crab that needs extra calcium however, you may consider calcisand because the crabs gain calcium from this type of sand. Otherwise, either is just as good for a regular land hermit crab.

What would happen if a hermit crab dug a hole in the sand and went in it?

Nothing really. It is probably molting or just trying to get some shade. Look up " What should you do when your hermit crab is molting? " for what to do when your hermit crab is molting. Or just type in " molting " to know what molting is.

Can you put half hermit crab sand and half fish rock in a tank in a 10 gallon tank for a hermit crab?

I think that the fish rock might be a little too hard for your hermit crab because he needs soft enough sand to be able to molt and when they molt their skin is sensitive so the fish rock will probably make him uncomfortable.

How can you tell the difference between a land and a marine hermit crab?

You can tell a land hermit crab from a water hermit crab by looking at the claws/arms or legs. If it is a water crab it will be blueish and if land crab it will be pinkish purpleish. If your crab is a water crab don't just throw it in water and leave it there, put a tiny bowl in it's tank or cage that is low to the ground and make sure that the water level is a bit lower than the hermit crabs top of its legs. Also have a wet sponge for each kind of hermit crab in the crabs tank.
