Answer 1
If your banana tree isn't producing bananas, it could be diseased, the wrong time of year (banana plants do not produce fruit in the winter), or perhaps you aren't caring for it properly. Bananas need a lot of sun and heat, regular watering (with fertilizer in the growing season), and well-draining soil. See the link below for more information about growing bananas.
Answer 2
A banana plant will only produce one bunch of bananas. Then it should be cut down allowing for the next sucker to grow and produce a bunch. Once most banana plants have produced 3 bunches of bananas from 3 different suckers within the plant, production will dwindle to almost nil afterwards. Making it necessary to replant every 2 to 3 years for optimum production. Of course this will vary slightly between banana varieties and location as most central and eastern African countries have diseased soil and plant with diseased suckers which do not produce anything. This is why it is recommended that farmers in those areas not plant with suckers (as most are diseased) and instead used tissue culture plants that are disease free.
