Fifteen bean stew is usually made from a mix of 15 beans including pinto, navy, kidney as well as spit peas and black eyed peas among others. Most grocery stores carry a selection of beans already packaged together and called 15 Bean or sometimes 10 Bean soup/stew. The package usually has cooking directions. Most 15 Bean recipes call for minced garlic, diced onion, a 14 oz can of diced tomatoes and ham or a ham bone. Some also add the juice of 1/2 a lemon.
