It comprises creamed butter and sugar, dried vine fruits (raisins,sultanas) chopped dates, chopped walnuts or almonds, ground almonds. beaten eggs and a small amount of flour to bind the mixture. The cake is baked quite slowly. When cooked it is frequently stored in an air-tight container and has quantities of alcohol spirit whisky, brandy or rum added to it over aperiod of weeks maturation. It is then usually covered in a marzipan icing as a base for a simple frosting, this often lifted in small peaks to "resemble"wind driven snow.
