Isomalt is a sugar substitute or artificial sweetner made from sucrose (cane/beet sugar). It theoretically has about half the calories of sugar, but passes through the body essentially unchanged.

Some people are sensitive to isomalt, and it may cause upset stomach, gas, or diarrhea if consumed in large quantities, so go easy on it at first until you're sure you're not one of these people.
