It depends what you are looking for in a hamster.
A Syrian hamster is the most common type of hamster. They are often very friendly and slow enough to be able to handle.
All dwarf hamsters are also very friendly although they are slightly faster and more timid.
A roborovski is the smallest breed of hamster they are incredibly fast and timid. They are unlikely to bite. They are often kept is pairs as they are incredibly social. They are unsuitable if you want to be able to hold, stroke or hand feed your hamster. They take ages to tame. I've had mine just under two years, and I've only just got him to take food from me. He doesn't like to be held either. But he is great fun to watch run around :D
Well. It depends on the type of hamster. I have a Robo and I love her(: it depends on the personality and the type.

The best type of tank for a hamster is a glass aquarium with a secure lid to prevent escapes and provide good ventilation. Glass tanks are easy to clean, provide a safe environment for the hamster, and allow for easy observation of the pet.
