Umm, no. Actually, the term jitney is a slang term for the nickel. From this usage comes the term jitney bus which originally had a five-cent fare.

A jitney dinner was a fund-raising dinner where food was sold by the scoop, at a nickel each, so the amount you paid depended on how high you piled your plate. The term is still in use for fund raising dinners today, but the price has no doubt gone up.
