Onions are a major part of an Indian meal. Since 2010 the onion industry has been in turmoil first due to a weather change that devastated the crop and then to the resulting rising price of onions which remains high even three years after the crop failure. Indian onion does not refer to a particular onion type, but to this country's culinary dependancy on the root crop.
