The Maryland Darter is a possibly extinct species that used to be found in just one small riffle in Deer Creek, where they were found in a small group. That was back in the 80's though, none of them have been spotted since. There was a failed attempt to search for more in November of 2008. It lived in the transition between an upland and a coastal plain. They are not only endemic to Maryland (only found in Maryland), but they are possibly the rarest fish species in the world.
