On the Lighter Side...

In the beginning, there were trees which bore fruits. One special tree bore "grapefruits", a wonderful edible. Some trees were very special and only bore "pink grapefruit". People soon found said grapefruits and the Elder said, "I shall taste it, lest it be a poison that will destroy all our people." And so he tasted it---and immediately made the most wretched face! All the people drew back in fear, believing the Elder was in the throes of death. Yet, he still stood! He still breathed! How can that be, the People asked themselves, when his face is so twisted after tasting grapefruit. The answer came directly from the Elder, who finally said, "My People! Come bear the taste of this funny fruit. It is not a grape, yet we call it grapefruit. It is not purple, like grapes, and tastes so bitter it can never make wine! But it indeed is a funny fruit. I challenge anyone in the Kingdom, eat of this fruit and just try to prevent your lips turning one way while your nose tilts upward and your eyes close down, just before your mouth puckers as though waiting for a kiss. Come! See what funny faces you can make with this funny grapefruit!" And so, these People were the first "Twisted Sister(s)" and the grapefruit gained such popularity, the People even had "Twisted Brothers," "Twisted Mothers," and "Twisted Fathers." And so, there you now know the Legend of the Purpose of Grapefruit!
