In Bahasa Melayu, thyme is called "thyme" as well, but it can also be referred to as "herba thyme." It is used in cooking for its aromatic flavor and is sometimes found in local markets.
luya is tagalog for ginger. thyme is not native to the Philippines so there might be no local term for it.

Gujaratis don't use thyme, but the spice called ajmo in Gujarati (ajwain in Hindi or ajowan caroway in English).
When substituting dried thyme for fresh thyme, use about one-third the amount called for in the recipe. A typical bundle of fresh thyme is roughly equivalent to 3 to 4 sprigs, which translates to about 1 to 1.5 teaspoons of dried thyme. Adjust to taste, as dried herbs can be more potent than fresh.
