Chickens in general are what I call "yard food composters" because they can eat nearly everything. In fact most of the foods you cannot put into your yard waste or garden compost can be eaten by your rooster without issue. Yogurt, cheese, mold-free fruits and veggie scraps are all good choices. Pasta and other grains are also good choice. Avoid salt and sugar as much as possible. I suggest checking out "Barnyard in your Backyard"; it has very straight forward information about housing and general care for chickens.
