Aside from the obvious such as dairy products, fruit is known to last longer when it's in the refrigerator as opposed to lying out on the counter. The more heat fruit is exposed to, the quicker it ripens. And typically, ripening eventually makes a fruit go bad. That's why when we buy a bunch of green bananas, we stick them in a closed paper bag to make them ripen quicker. They're being exposed to more heat, and essentially, less air that way.
