Plum trees are best planted in late fall or early spring. October would be the best month to plant because the soil is moist with some warm summer sun. How is trickier. It depends if your growing from the seed or ordered and already half grown. Here is what I suggest you do: plant the seed into a flower pot in late August. A month before you plant it, make a hole 2 ft. deep and 4 ft. wide and fill it with organtic potting material- sorry, my dad says I have to go to bed GOOD LUCK!!

It would be early in Spring, before the plum tree gets buds on it, usually about April or May. Any time the tree is dormant, the leaves are off, you can trim it easily with little harm to the tree. If you must do it in summer, wait until after the tree has flowered.
