The prophet was Jeremiah. The princes of Israel did not like his prophetic message so they cast him into a muddy pit, from which he was later drawn out in the manner described. This is found in Jeremiah 38:1-13.
The prophet who was thrown into the well when he was little is Prophet Joseph (Yusuf in Arabic). He was thrown into the well by his jealous brothers, but he was later rescued and went on to play a significant role in Egyptian history.
