Hermit crabs like to switch shells often, and many times they will switch to a shell and switch right back to their old one as a sort of "buyers remorse".... Make sure the shells you keep are a bit larger than the ones your crabs are currently in, and the new ahells shouldn't have anything inside like sharp edges...
