It depends on which type of potato blight you are referring to.
Early blight -- caused by Alternaria solani, a fungal pathogen.
Late blight -- caused by Phytophthora infestans, an oomycete.
Potato blight, also known as late blight, is caused by a water mold called Phytophthora infestans, which is neither a bacteria nor a virus. It is a type of oomycete, which is a group of fungus-like microorganisms that can cause plant diseases.
The type of microbe which causes Malaria is Protozoa... well that's what i was told by my science teacher :) x

potato blight - phytophtera infestans
The type of potato grown by the Irish was overrun by blight. Since the potato was the main staple food of the average Irishman (or Irishwoman) many in the country died of starvation or they left for America to try and better their fortunes.
There are six main types of microbes. Fungi is a microbe, with the other five being archaea, bacteria, protista, viruses and microbial mergers.
The microbe is virus
Irish Potato Famine. The Irish focused only on one type of potato, so when blight hit, all their resources were gone and the people died or immigrated to other countries including America.
The common cold is caused by a VIRUS not a microbe (a microbe is a bacteria).
Strep throat is caused by group A beta haemolytic streptococci.
