You can start feeding you bunny carrots as soon as they are weaned from the mother's milk and are eating solid food, at approximately three months old. One carrot a day should be sufficient, and include the leafy greens on top as often as possible because they are a good source of other nutrients. But do not feed your bunny ONLY carrots. Rabbits need a variety of nutrients and vitamins, as well as things safe to gnaw, so a balanced diet of fresh vegetables and low-protein/high-fibre pellets, plus an ample supply of timothy hay, is essential for a healthy rabbit.

A baby cottontail bunny will typically nurse until the age of 4 or 5 weeks at which time the mother cottontail will wean the baby. After the baby cottontail bunny has been weaned it can easily feed itself on grass and other vegetation that it finds.
