Amul was established in 1946 in Anand, Gujarat, India. It was created as a cooperative to provide fair prices to milk producers and ensure a steady supply of milk and dairy products. The brand is managed by the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) and has since become one of India's largest dairy brands. Amul played a significant role in the White Revolution, transforming India's dairy industry.

The Dhaval Kranti, or the White Revolution, occurred in India primarily during the 1970s and 1980s. It was initiated by the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and aimed to increase milk production and improve rural livelihoods through cooperative dairy farming. The movement gained momentum with the establishment of the Anand Milk Union Limited (AMUL) in Gujarat, which became a model for dairy cooperatives across the country. This revolution significantly transformed India's dairy industry, making it one of the largest producers of milk in the world.
