Just before 1950, George Lerner designed and produced a first generation set of plastic face pieces. The push pin shaped noses, ears, eyes and mouth parts could be pushed into fruits or vegetables to transform the food into an endless amout of possibilities, thus, making the buiding blocks of the mr. potato head we know today. The toy was invented by George Lerner, based off an earlier toy called "Make A Face". The toy was originally designed as prizes in children's cereal competitions, but they became popular enough to become a stand-alone toy in their own right. There is a Mr Potato Head in the famous Toy Story movies.
