In the 1880s a butchers was opened inLeicester by Henry walker

during the war in 1945 when meat was scarce he started cutting up and frying slices of potato.

in 1954 he introduced flavours - cheese and onion.

The Invention of Potato 'crisps' or 'chips' is often credited to one George Crum in 1853, a New York cook, though the legend of Georges thinly sliced fried potatoes may of helped popularise the dish it's unlikely that he invented them.

In her 1845 (also published in the USofA) book Modern Cookery for Private Families Eliza Acton gives a recipe labelled "Fried Potatoes", and suggests cutting peeled potatoes into thin shavings "… and throw them into plenty of boiling butter or very pure clarified dripping. Fry them of a fine light brown and very crisp." She then suggests that they should be drained of fat and served very hot with fine salt sprinkled on them.

Thus the recipe for Crisps pre-date Crums amusing tale, the name of the original creator of Crisps is probably lost in time.

they came from a plant on earth when a man fell in to a pit with an idea of crisps and a plant grew where he died and it became fruitful of potato slices and someone picked them and cooked it and added flavour then sold them world wide!

some chef in France once made them on accident by serving chopped potatos as his specialty. then one day somebody complained and said the slices were too thick so the chef cut then extra thin. when he fried them they became crisp and crunchy. then he named then chips.

there is a UK recipient book from 1815 for potatoes sliced thinly and fried until crisp. so I suspect the original inventor was a lot old (whoever they were)
