In 1846, a gal by the name of Nancy Johnson patented a hand-cranked freezer that established the basic method of ice cream making still in use today. William Young patented the similar "Johnson Patent Ice Cream Freezer" later in 1848. These were some of the earliest examples of ice cream makers available to the general public. Commercial ice cream makers began to appear in the late 18th, early 19th century, when advances in refrigeration technology made the concept more feasible and the ice cream product began to rise in popularity.
Hope this helps!

The first ice cream machine was invented in the United States in the 18th century. In 1843, Nancy Johnson, a New Jersey homemaker, patented a hand-cranked ice cream maker that allowed for the efficient production of ice cream. This invention made it easier for people to create ice cream at home, contributing to its popularity.
It was Jacob Fussel, who opened the first ice cream factory, but Nancy Johnson made the first hand cranked one, then sold the idea to a richer man.
