i think that, because they're so small, they only rely on a network of trachea, tracheoles and spiracles to supply oxygen - as their small bodies provide a short difusion pathway.

How do amphibians obtain a supply of oxygen for respiration?

Either through their lungs as adults, Gills as larvae, and small amounts of oxygen through their moist skin.

How do dragonflies obtain oxygen?

Since, dragon fly nymph is in water once it has hatched from its egg it will breathe through gills.

Why fish are red?

The gills are sided by a series of capillaries. Capillaries are small blood vessels. These capillaries are used to transport oxygen from the gills throughout the fish.

Why do smaller annelid worms not need gills to obtain sufficient oxygen?

I got this question in a biology past paper and tried to find the answer on the internet too, so i thought i best answer it for other people :P i settled with the species are so small that they have a large surface area to volume ratio, meaning they take in quite a lot of oxygen, and because they're so small they don't use up all of this oxygen as quickly as lugworms and other larger species of annelids. if it's wrong, sorry, i basically just took knowledge and made a logical guess

Do sharks need air like humans?

yes, sharks take small oxygen bubles and breath them through there gills

Where does diffusion occur in fish?

Diffusion occurs in fish primarily in their gills, where oxygen from water diffuses into the blood and carbon dioxide diffuses out of the blood into the water. This process allows fish to obtain the oxygen they need for respiration and to rid their bodies of waste carbon dioxide.

How do abalone breathe?

Abalones breathe by using gills located in their shells to extract oxygen from water. They have a muscular foot that creates a respiratory current, drawing water over their gills and exchanging oxygen and carbon dioxide. This allows them to survive in their underwater habitat.

Do sea horses breathe?

It takes in oxygen and releases carbon dioxide through small gills on the sides of its head, just like other fish do but I am not sure if the proper term for it is 'breathing', or if there is another term for it with fish since the oxygen is absorbed though the gills, rather than taking it directly to the lungs.

How do crabs breathe?

With gills as fish do, and they breathe on land by keeping their gills moist so oxygen in the air can still be absorbed. Crustaceans (true and false crabs, lobsters and prawns etc) need oxygen, just like we do, but instead of using lungs inside the body they use gills outside the body to get it. Gills (and lungs) work because oxygen is a very small molecule. During respiration oxygen molecules first dissolve into a layer of moisture surrounding a thin membrane. Then the oxygen molecules, because they are so small, cross right through the membrane into the circulatory system (the blood) of the animal. The source of the oxygen can either be as gas in the air or already dissolved in another liquid - like the sea. It doesn't matter where the oxygen originally comes from, the most important factor in respiration is that the surface the oxygen molecules cross is wet. In decapods (10-legged crustaceans like crabs and lobsters) the gills are protected because they are enclosed in a chamber under the sides of the carapace (the hard shell that covers the head and thorax). Crustaceans that live in water have no trouble keeping their gills moist. Crustaceans that live on land or on rocky shores where the tide comes and goes keep their gills wet by using fluids from inside the body and by having the chamber well sealed so that very little moisture is lost. The gills themselves are feathery structures at the tops of the walking legs of decapod crustaceans. They are derived from part of the jointed walking leg.they have gills so it must be humid and you need to spray them twice a dayHermit crabs have two breathing ways. First is the main one, gills. They can breathe air or water, but mostly air (they can drown). The gills and crab must remain moist so they can breathe. They can also absorb oxygen through the air through their abdomen.

Why do animals need ventilation?

since fish live in water and it face some problems in ventilation where it getoxygen from water where oxygen concentration of oxygen in water is small hence large amount of water must pass to the gills so as to supply sufficient oxygen for metabolic activities on doing that fish use more energy since water is very viscous which make it not easily to flow in the gill so fish use more energy to over come this friction

Does prawn breathe with their lungs?

Mainly through a small trumpet based on its left knee, other sources have claimed that they breathe through its antennae very much like a human using a snorkel. During large storms it is not uncommon to find large numbers of prawns that have choked to death on sea water.Branchia, also known as Gills.

What does an oyster eat or what eats a oyster?

Oysters eat planton, algae and any small particle they can suck in.we eat oysters and i think otters do too.Oysters have gills. They absorb oxygen from the water.
