Why is a banana a vegetable?

There is nothing that makes a banana a vegetable. The banana is a fruit, the fourth largest fruit crop in the world. Nuts have nothing to do with this.

As far as I know, bananas are fruits. Fruits are from flowers and contain seeds, like tomatoes, apples, strawberries etc, however, like courgettes and some cucumbers, forced grown/comercial varieties, they do not contain seeds capable of germination and I am at a loss of what they could be called now that humans have made these once wonderful things available in differents shapes, sizes and colours into precise, uniform shapes that are acceptable by supermarkets and able to travel long distances without discolouration or loss of flavour for being weeks old.

A banana is a fruit, but in some cuisine it is cooked green (not ripe) and is served as a vegetable dish and it is not sweet. Either way tasty!
