Why is chewing gum in school prohibited?

Typically gum chewers don't dispose of gum in paper in a trash can. They tend to put gum on or under seats, desks, floors, on walls, in peoples hair and generally all over the place. Those dark circular-like spots you see on sidewalks and parking lots, etc are all gum. It is icky and disgusting to step in it and to have to look at it and schools don't want to have to pay someone to clean gum that students discard everywhere.

Generally not approved of. the argument is that kids use it as ammunition for (spit-balls) rubbing into desks, books, etc, and it poses a humungus removal problem. The product is harmless, but some uses it is put to are not.

1) because its a mesds but taste really good and what if teachers did allow it we would have FREEDOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2) Students were damaging school property with Chewing Gum by sticking it in such places like under desk or in computers. Also, some students are to noisy with chewing their gum, and create distractions toward other students.

Because gum can be very annoying while popping and chomping some people have to do it some do it on purpose! Plus it's a MESS when played with it could be thrown on purpose to stick on someone that's why gum should stay banned from school!!!!

ok, well 1, you spelled banned wrong. 2 , its banned because of a few reasons. 1, its annoying to teachers and some students 2 it makes a mess when not properly disposed of. 3 it distracts some people, and 4 teachers dont want us to have fun or think about anything else but school !!!! :p

It is proven that chewing gum helps keep you focused. It would help the kids pay more attention in class and keep them focused. If there is any issues there could be automatic detention for the person/group of people/class/grade. All around gum is a necessity for school.

Most of the time because gum is constantly stuck under tables, ground into carpet, and just plain gets everywhere.
