As a server you are responsible for the image of the restaurant and as an ambasador should do their best to answer every question about the shop correctly.

I have never expected a server to know all the answers, but if i need to know what s in a dish because of alergies or dietary restrictions as liaison between guest and establishment it is not unreasonable to expect the server to find out.

From the servers point of view, it is best to do any reasonable activity that could increase you total tips on any given day of work, they're there to make money after all.
