Unless your religious/personal beliefs or health problems dictate otherwise you can eat meat. Vegetarians or vegans believe that we should not kill animals in order to use them for food and this is the main reason that they are against meat eating.

Meat is a good source of nutrients and contains essential amino acids necessary for our health. But there are also many other plant-based options to also get these nutrients from. Legumes are excellent source of protein. Spinach is an excellent source of iron. Fortified soy milk and nutritional yeast can provide you with B12. According to the American Dietetic Association. a well balanced vegetarian diet is healthy for all stages of life. Its a personal choice a person makes to not eat meat for many reasons.

For those who have high cholesterol, they should cut down on the amount of red meat that they eat, chicken and turkey being a better choice. Not eating cholesterol in the first place and adopting a healthy well balanced plant based diet may be best. But a doctor and or registered dietitian should always be consulted if you are concern about your health. It is important for everyone to know how to eat healthy whether you're a practicing vegetarian or omnivore.

Meat should always be properly cooked and not left unrefrigerated (or uncooked in the fridge) for any length of time as that can attract bacteria and lead to food poisoning.
