yes i asked my local vet, he said that the the skin and seeds can cause damage to the toe nails and sometimes disease to the roof of their mouth. my friends dog had many cases of stomach infections and had a serious case of hepititis g which only occurs in dogs all from one harmless tomato.

My dog Mason, a 23 lb. rat terrier, eats tomatoes like they are going out of style. He has never had any ill effects, not even loose stool. Just today he helped himself to two Roma plum tomatoes from my garden (more like HIS garden, ha ha) and sat in the sun and ate them both. Now ain't that the life? He is a very odd dog though. He also begs for bell peppers, and watermelon. I read on-line that the green parts of tomatoes (ie stems, leaves, etc.) contain toxins dangerous to dogs and humans-But I have never had a problem with him eating these inedible parts. it dosent harm dogs dont worry about it =]

It can be with extended use. pH is not the reason for brown spots (which is why most people give their dogs tomato sauce), grass dies because of toxic levels of nitrogen. Feeding additives such as tomato, vinegar or baking soda to your dog will not stop the brown spots, and can actually be harmful to your dog! It could result in urinary tract disease, crystals, bladder stones, and bladder infections with extended use.
