You have two hermit crabs for two years now one died today and the other is now really depressed is it too soon to introduce a new crab?

Nope. Land hermit crabs in the wild travel in groups of thousands. They are exposed to different crabs every second; their should be no problem introducing a new one. (Make sure they're the same size though, otherwise the smaller one will be killed.)
