There are several possibilities. The dough maybe be too warm in which case you should keep cookie dough refrigerated until just before you bake them. The cookie sheet may also be too hot when you put the cookies on it. I have two pans, and while one is cooking the other is cooling off in the refrigerator. The last possibility I can think of is that instead of using a solid fat like shortening or butter you may have used oil, and that makes them spread too much.

There are for different cooking settings on a stove, one of which is to make it so only heat comes from the top or bottom, that is where rack positioning comes in. This is why you dont want to bake a sheet of cookies under another sheet of cookies, on conventional bake, As only one set of cookies might cook, This may vary on different ovens.
It really depends on what sort of cookies you are baking. For instance, sugar cookies would bake at an average temperature of 350 degrees Fahrenheit (180 Celsius), but thick brownies may bake at 425 degrees Fahrenheit (220 Celsius). Or, you may want your cookies to bake slowly, and put them in at 325 Fahrenheit (160 Celsius) for a longer period of time. The most common temperature that I have seen for all sorts of baking and roasting is 350 degrees Fahrenheit (180 Celsius). It is considered a "moderate" temperature and is used for the majority of things I have cooked. That goes for cookies, too. == Most of my cookies bake at a temperature of 375 Fahrenheit (190 Celsius).
A word that can answer all three questions; how, where, and when, could be EVER.When you answer EVER to these three questions you will get, how-ever, where-ever, when-ever.examples:How do you want your cookies baked?How-ever you make bake cookies is fine.Where do you want your bags?Where-ever you drop them is fine. When would you like me there?when-ever is a good time for you.
