The 1888 Indian Princess Head $3 gold piece, despite having a low mintage of only 5,000 coins, is one of the most common dates of the series. This coin is very available in all circulated grades and even Gem Mint State grades. It is by no means rare. For an accurate assessment of value the coin needs to be seen and graded. Assuming it's circulated, most examples have seen heavy use and show a lot of wear. In general retail values for low grade coins are $375.00-$625.00, better grade are $700.00-$900.00 and coins showing almost no wear run from $1,200.00-$3,200.00. Values are a market average and only for coins in collectible condition, coins that are bent, corroded, scratched, used as jewelery or have been cleaned have far less value if any to a collector or dealer.

NOTE: The entire series (1854-1889) of $3 gold coins is known to been counterfeited. I strongly suggest authentication of any coin of this series.
