Set up an account with an online broker like one of the following:

Scott Trade, E-Trade, Ameritrade, etc, etc. There are lots of them out there and they usually charge under $10 to buy one share or one thousand shares. Some of the "full service" brokers charge extra if you buy anything not in 100 share lots. Accounts are easy to set up and can usually be done in less than half an hour. Then you send them money to put into the account and use to make your purchases.

Where can you buy a 1 dollar investment or find a investor that can invest it for you?

You can't. Though you could find penny stocks and invest in a considerable amount of them (minimum a (few) hundred dollars, I would suppose). I would make no sense to buy one share of a $1 stock: a broker would charge between $5-10 for each trade (i.e., each time you buy any number of shares of a particular stock). If you wanted to buy 100 shares of a $1 stock, you'd need to give him at least $105. If you wanted to buy 1 share of a $1 stock, you'd need to give him $6. It would not make any sense.

Does UPS own shares of Swift trucking stock?

Until a few weeks ago Swift LLC was privately owned by Jerry Moise it is now a public company but I do not think that UPS has any influence on Swift A bit of correction here: Swift has, for a very long time, been a publicly traded company - it wasn't "just up to a few weeks ago". Jerry Moyes did, sometimes in the mid-to-late 2000s, attempt to buy back all the shares of Swift Transportation (thus making it a private company, once again), but the shareholders refused.

Why ans how did the stock market destroy the lives of many people in october 1929?

It was during this time period that the stock market crashed, causing many people who had invested in the stock market to lose a lot of money. For example, say you bought 2,000 shares of a stock back then for $2.00 a share (figuratively). You have invested $4,000 in the stock of this company. When the stock market crashed, the price of this stock dropped to $.05 a share, but you still have 2,000 shares of it. What was worth $4,000 days ago is now worth $100, causing you to lose $3,900 in a matter of a few days.
