Mandy is a book about a young girl living in an orphanage in England. She has been there for as long as she can remember, and rooms and plays with another girl named Susan. One day when she is on her own, however, she decides to try and climb the wall at the back of the orphanage, and discovers a deserted cottage. The book follows Mandy as she cleans and restores the cottage, and eventually, becomes obsessed about it, leading to other problems. It has a sweet conclusion though, making Mandy's dreams come true.
