Are celebrities really beautiful in actual life?

Because they are all rich enough to fix any sort of flaws they may have.

When a person is in the public eye for much of their time, whether they are actors, writers, journalists or other entertainers, or politicians and other public office-holders, or simply people famous for being famous ('socialites' and 'party people' and so on) they need to look as good as they possibly can.

Any flaws in their appearance will be picked up on and reported publicly, and apart from the fact that nobody wants their looks denigrated or made fun of, the way they look reflects upon those who are making money from them in one way or another, as well as upon their own direct earnings.

When a person appears on, say, a television news show, they must first go through the makeup department whether or not they are well-known - a celebrity - in order to look their best for the cameras. If you went on television in a studio, with all the lights and camera angles, you'd look quite different without special makeup.

Television stations don't charge money to do this: it's simply important to produce good-looking people onscreen, otherwise people will eventually change channels.

Magazines and other publications routinely enhance photographs of people they feature in order to make them meet whatever the editors of the publications believe the public will find most attractive, or most wants to see.

In the end, it is we, the consumers, who get to see the type of looks we want to see. A great deal of money is spent in discovering what we expect of those we want to look at, and in producing the end product we want.

The entire cosmetics industry, from eyebrow-shaping to toenail decoration, is pretty well based on the fact that we want to look like the people we consider beautiful, so a lot of hard work goes into keeping them looking as beautiful as we'd like to look: it's a circle that never ends.

Apart from those who become obsessed with their own appearance or with reaching the goal of looking like a particular person or set of people regardless of what this costs in terms of money and their own physical and mental health, looking good is a fairly harmless aim, and people who believe they look good have higher self-esteem and therefore more confidence and ability to succeed.

So it's fine to want to be beautiful, or to come as close to it as you possibly can, provided it isn't the main aim in your life. There's not a lot to admire about a person who constantly worries about their appearance, just as it can be uncomfortable to be with any person who is self-obsessed.

Enjoy looking at beautiful people, don't feel jealous, admire all the beauty around you, including the beauty within the real people you meet all the time, and you'll be happy. And be truly thankful you don't have to spend most of your life being painted and prodded about by people trying to fit you into a money-making image. Trust me, you'd hate it.
