They infamously didn't get along. John Wayne represented the old school ways of masculinity, and Montgomery Clift was beginning to usher in a new era to look at human nature and men. Wayne often scoffed at his lack of posture (Wayne was 6'4" and muscular, Clift was 5'11" and wiry). Wayne's indifference infuriated Clift according to many of the people who worked on Red River with them.

John Wayne used the same gun in several movies - a Winchester Model 94, chambered for a 32-40 round. The John Wayne Commemorative Rifle (I have one still new in the box I got 24 years ago) has engraved on the receiver all of the movies he used that particular rifle in. It differs from the standard Winchester in that the lever has a larger loop, making it stand out. Any John Wayne fan can spot the difference - in some movies, he'll even swap a regular Winchester for that one. Some of the movies he used it in are:The Sons of Katie ElderHondoThe SearchersStagecoachThe Man who shot Liberty ValanceEl DoradoShe Wore a Yellow RibbonThe War WagonRed RiverThe CowboysMcClintock! (my wife's favorite)Rio BravoTrue GritChisumHow the West was WonRio Grande

It is a movie, starring John Wayne as a 70's detective in New York. I think that's right, He made a couple of films like thet where he played a 70's detective, one was set in New York and the other was set either in England or Austraila. Either way it is a John Wayne film.
