In East Meadow, there is an anime event, but not really a convention. Plus, it's already happened- June 10.
However, in New York City, Comic Con is coming up soon, in October.. The tickets are rather expensive, as it is a four-day event, but tickets for just Sunday is $35. I'd suggest buying tickets before hand, as the lines can stretch for blocks and blocks.
If you're on Long Island, going into the city shouldn't really be much of a problem, but if you don't have a friend or relative with a place to stay, food and hotel costs can rack up pretty quickly.
