There will only be seven Harry Potter books. J.K. Rowling has said in various interviews, as well as on her own website, that she will not be writing any more.

There has been some discussion that she might consider writing another informative book, like an encyclopaedia, about the Harry Potter universe for charity, similar to her other works Quidditch Through the Ages, The Tales of Beedle the Bard, and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. However, the plans for this appear to have been dropped with the release of Pottermore, an interactive website where Rowling often releases new information.

She has written a short prequel featuring the younger James Potter and Sirius Black.

In March of 2008, Rowling confirmed she was working a 'political fairy tale' for children that was nearing completion. She was also writing a book for adults, the title of which was later revealed to be The Casual Vacancy which was released in 2012

In October 2011, Rowling said in an interview with Oprah Winfrey that she wasn't over Harry Potter and could write more books.

In 2013 it was revealed that she had released another book for adults under the pseudonym of Robert Galbraith. The Cuckoo's Calling, is the first in a crime series following detective Cormoran Strike. The second book, The Silkworm, was released in 2014. Rowling has stated that she has seven books planned for the series.

In 2013 it was also announced that Warner Brothers would be making three movies based on Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them for which J.K. Rowling would write the screenplay.

In 2014 it was announced that J.K. Rowling was planning on writing a stage play for the West End. This play would be set in Harry's early years, before he discovered he was a wizard.

In April 2015, in an interview while launching Lumos US, Rowling said that although she will never say that she definitely won't write another book in the Harry Potter series, she felt like she'd wrapped Harry's story up and didn't think an eighth book following what happened to Harry, Ron and Hermione was going to happen.
