In the original comics, green Smurfs are considered to be wild and mad, and many of the regular Smurfs are afraid of them. They don't really appear that often, though, so most tend to forget them entirely. Basically, in the comic canon, green Smurfs do exist; in the cartoon, they don't.

Yes. Smurfs have also been purple. In one episode of The Smurfs a Smurf was bitten on his tail by an insect which turned him purple. He then went insane and shouted "GNAP! GNAP!". He then bit other Smurfs on the tail, and they went crazy and turned purple also. Eventually Papa Smurf found an antidote to the disease, and there was a "war" between the purple and blue Smurfs. At one point, Papa Smurf was the only blue Smurf left, but then he accidentally broke the cauldron holding the antidote, and it made a giant cloud of the antidote that eventually cured all of the purple smurfs! I think that was the best smurf episode.
