Many years ago, a psychologist by the name of Pavlov had a theory. He wondered if there was a relationship a creature's behavior (as a response) and what preceeded it (the stimuli).
Of course, I'm talking about Pavlov and his famous dog. In this experiment, Pavlov would ring a bell before feeding the animal. At that point, the dog would begin to salivate. Eventually, Pavlov rang the bell, but didn't feed the dog. But the dog still expected food, and it had been "conditioned" to associate the stimlus (bell) with the response (food).
When a person eats in front of the TV, they are actually creating a Pavlovian environment. You sit down, click on the TV, enter that relaxed state of viewership, and start to eat.
The TV is your bell.
Turn off the TV. Read a book. Go for a walk. Learn a musical instrument. All of these new behaviors will lack the effect of making you want to eat because you have not conditioned yourself that way.
