You are not able to battle Ash in any Pokemon game. However the character Ash originated from, Red, can be challenged in Pokemon Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold and SoulSilver. Red is considered the hardest trainer battle in those games. Red can also be battled in Pokemon Black2 and White2 as part of the Pokemon World Tournament which also features other trainers from older games.
In Pokemon Fire Red there is no Ultimate Trainer, the 2 games Fire and Leaf follow the same story plot as the original Red and Blue.
In order to beat the Elite 4 and Your Rival your Pokemon are recommended to be at least level 60 along with a full stock of Full Restore's and Revive's.
Lorelei uses combination Ice types so you will want either Grass or ordinary Fire type to take her down.
Bruno will use Rock combination types so you will want either Water, Grass, Steel types to eliminate him.
Agatha will use Ghost Combination types, so Psychic types should be perfect for her.
Lance will use an asortment of Dragon types, so Ice and Water are perfect (Water because he has an Aerodactyl and a Charizard, Ice because of his 2 Dragonite).
and then your Rival will use much of what I just told you.
