Describe Tolkien's use of humor in The Hobbit From what authorial techniques and sources does the book draw much of its wit?

Tolkien is a very humorous writer; he makes humor in his books by adding funny parts to the story. Like when Bilbo laughed at the dwarves getting out of the barrels after they floated down the wet cold river that was next to the big black Mirkwood forest, which I think is a cool place because it has giant Spiders. The spiders would've eaten the dwarves unless Frodo helped them get out of the webs. They were saved and happy until the wood-elves caught them then Frodo helped them escape again by throwing them in barrels. It's really funny because he laughs at them.
