It was originally sung by Audrey Hepburn in the movie Breakfast at Tiffanys and has been recorded by many other artists. Perhaps the most famous version apart from the original of it is the Andy Williams version. However there is a recording of Doris Day singing moon river, but it was not a particularly well known version of it.

The phrase "By the Light of the Silvery Moon" is from the 1953 musical film of the same name starring Doris Day and Gordon MacRae. It is a sequel to the 1951 film "On Moonlight Bay."
They sang many songs together but not one by that name.
Doris Day did not get into movies until 1947 and she never made a movie with Les Brown. Back in those days they made what was called "Soundies." Maybe that is what you are thinking about.
