Yes and no. The fingerprint was a significant clue in the Adventure of the Norwood Builder (a story in The Return of Sherlock Holmes) but I'd spoil the story if I told you all, so please read it.
I'll tell you this much. Inspector Lestrade found the bloodied print. He compared it to that of the suspect he had arrested. Lestrade thought he had his murderer. Holmes proved he did not.

Sherlock Holmes' responsibilities are to arrest people who are up to no good and help the public solve their problems. If you don't think this is thorough enough look up the word detective in the dictionary.
Holmes solved the mystery cheerlessly.
Sherlock Holmes did indeed. Sher standed for Sure and Lock because he solved cases so if you put it together he was sure to solve and unlock the case. And Holmes because he is very comforting as a home is to anyone.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was the first famous author to utilize fingerprint evidence to solve a fictional crime in his Sherlock Holmes story "The Adventure of the Norwood Builder" published in 1903.
Sherlock Holmes solved 'A Study in Scarlet.' Agatha Christie's Miss Marple solved 'The Body in the Library' and Hercule Peroit solved 'Murder on the Orient Express.'
He used the basic code breaking technique called Frequency Analysis. It works well for substitution cyphers such as the dancing men.

I recommend reading "The Hound of the Baskervilles" by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. It is a classic mystery novel featuring the famous detective Sherlock Holmes, and it will engage you in solving the intriguing case of the Baskerville family.

The Adventure of the Speckled Band is a Sherlock Holmes mystery, in which Sherlock solves the mystery. The Hardy Boys solve mysteries, but not the Speckled Band. Nancy Drew solves mysteries, but not the Speckled Band.

Most of the Sherlock Holmes stories are written in descriptive style. For instance, many stories contain historical fiction (based on actual history), and the actions of the protagonist, Sherlock Holmes, are described in detail. However, many parts of the stories are in narrative style, and mostly when a client is narrating the details of the case. Also, the two short stories written in third person and the two stories written by Sherlock Holmes are mostly narratives. The two styles may, at times, also be mixed together.
