Heath Ledger was an actor who liked to become one with his role, I have heard. It has been said that he became too immerse in his role as the joker and that he was having a problem stepping out of his role later. So, I guess, it kinda did affect him and make him crazy.
No it didn't make him crazy. He said it was 'the most fun' he had ever had playing a character and people on set with him said he was so much fun.
